Google

Twelve years building the user experience of Google Cloud Platform — now designing the AI-native future of data & analytics.

Data Cloud UX

Twelve years at Google, building the user experience of Google Cloud Platform — growing from an individual-contributor designer into a design manager. Today I lead the integrated developer-experiences design team in Data Cloud UX, designing and building the AI-native experiences powering the future of Google Cloud.

My depth is in data analytics and big-data tooling — BigQuery, Dataflow, Dataproc, Dataform, Dataplex, Pub/Sub, Kafka, Flink, Spark, Composer. That's not a niche: data is the substrate of modern AI, and the people who wrangle it — analysts, data engineers, scientists — are exactly who the agentic era has to serve. Designing for them well is one of the highest-leverage problems in AI right now.

Agentic experiences don't live on one screen — they follow the developer across tools. I design and build AI-native data experiences spanning the full surface area developers actually work in:

Web

BigQuery Studio, Databases Studio, and the analytics console — where agentic assistance meets the canvas.

IDE

The Data Agent Kit for VS Code — bringing data agents into the editor where engineers live.

Notebooks

Data Apps for Notebooks — turning exploratory analysis into shareable, AI-assisted apps.

CLI & API

Agent and tooling surfaces for terminal-first and programmatic workflows — design that respects how power users build.

Mobile

Monitoring and insight on the go, so the data experience isn't chained to a desk.

Agentic core

Agentic BigQuery — weaving AI through the data workflow itself rather than bolting a chatbot on the side.

I lead the integrated developer-experiences design team in Data Cloud UX. The portfolio spans Agentic BigQuery, BigQuery Studio, Databases Studio, the Data Agent Kit for VS Code, and Data Apps for Notebooks — shaping how developers and analysts work with data, with agentic AI woven through the experience rather than bolted on.

At the center is BigQuery — Google Cloud's flagship data & analytics platform, widely recognized as a market leader (a Leader in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Cloud Database Management Systems) and one of GCP's marquee products. Designing here means raising the craft bar on a surface used by enterprises worldwide.

I lead the way I came up — close to the craft. Twelve years took me from pixels to patterns to people, and I still manage like a player-coach: set a high bar and a sharp direction, then give designers the context and the cover to do the best work of their careers.

Still technical

I read the code and the Figma. Being fluent in how things actually ship lets me make calls fast, earn engineers' trust, and keep design grounded in what's real.

Growing designers

I lead a team of six senior-and-above designers today, and have led up to ten. Hiring, mentoring, and calibration aimed at one outcome: designers leave more senior and more capable than they arrived.

Direction over decisions

I'd rather set sharp intent and a high bar than approve every screen. Clear direction scales; bottleneck sign-offs don't.

Influence at scale

Landing design across Google is mostly influence without authority — building the case with PM, eng, and research until the right work is the obvious work.

Twelve years from individual contributor to manager — the same products, seen from pixels, then patterns, then people:

Across these roles I was the lead designer for — or the manager overseeing the design of — a broad slice of Google Cloud, always in partnership with UX Research, Engineering, and Product Management:

BigQuery Dataflow Pub/Sub Apache Kafka Apache Flink Apache Spark

The throughline across these roles is making complex, technical surfaces feel clear and humane — and doing it at scale, through both craft and leadership. I stay close enough to the work to shape the details, and far enough back to set direction for a team.
